LEADER - Monographs (print format and microform) Character positions: 05 Record status: Code "c" (corrected or revised). All records should carry this value when the cataloguing process is complete. 06 Type of record: Code "a" (printed language material) for language materials where the content is primarily textual in nature and "t" (manuscript language material) for theses. Mandatory field in OCLC. 07 Bibliographic level: Must be "m" for monographs. Mandatory field in OCLC. 08 Type of control: System generated. 17 Encoding level: Code "blank" (full level) when cataloguing is complete; code "7" (minimal level) for brief bibs. Mandatory field in OCLC. 18 Descriptive cataloguing form: Code "a" for AACR. Mandatory field in OCLC. 19 Linked record requirement: Code "blank" for related record not required. VARIABLE CONTROL FIELDS - Monographs (print format and microform) 001 Control number: Delete any 001 fields from imported records, and from records created by copying an existing MORRIS record. When records are processed for Endeca, the bib number is put in field 001 which, according to MARC, is not repeatable. This should be the only 001 field in the bibliographic record. Records with more than one field are problematic in Endeca.006 FIXED-LENGTH DATA ELEMENTS - ADDITIONAL MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS - Monographs (print format and microform) Do not use for accompanying material. Field 006 is not used under any circumstances in print records (LC Web, Sept. 2/98). 007 PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION FIXED FIELD - GENERAL INFORMATION - Monographs (print format and microform) Do not code for monographs in print format. Do not code for accompanying material. See Adding Electronic Titles to Print document, when using a single catalogue record for both print and electronic versions of the same title. Character Positions: 00-05 Date entered on file: System generated for derived records. Input date for brief bibs. and origs. 06 Type of date: Must match type of date in 260 |c. "r" may be used for a reprint when the original publication date is unknown, or appears in a note (this is LC practice). "t" (publication date and copyright date) has replaced "c" for all materials except serials. Mandatory field in OCLC. 07-10 Date 1: Must match first date in 260 |c. The letter "u" indicates when a date element is totally or partially unknown (e.g. 19uu). Mandatory field in OCLC which encompasses character positions 07-14. 11-14 Date 2: Must match second date in 260 |c, if any, or the original date given in a reprint note. The letter "u" indicates when a date element is totally or partially unknown. Use "9999" for multi-part items that are incomplete. 15-17 Place of publication: Must match 260 |a. Add or change if required. Required if applicable or readily available in OCLC. 18-21 Illustrations: Must match 300 |b. McMaster does not use "d" or "f", but leaves in copy. Optional field in OCLC . 22 Target audience: Do not code. Disregard. 23 Form of item: Code as indicated in MARC coding manual. Required if applicable or readily available in OCLC 24-27 Nature of contents: Code as indicated in MARC coding manual. Optional field in OCLC. 28 Government publication: Code as indicated in MARC coding manual for government documents. Delete for all others, including those regarded in derived records as government publications (e.g. state university publications). Mandatory field in OCLC. 29 Conference publication: Code as indicated in MARC coding manual, even if the conference is not the main entry or an added entry. Mandatory field in OCLC. 30 Festschrift: Code as indicated in MARC coding manual. Mandatory field in OCLC. 31 Index: Code as indicated in MARC coding manual. Optional field in OCLC. 32 Undefined 33 Literary form: Code if applicable. Optional field in OCLC . 34 Biography: Code if applicable. Optional field in OCLC. 35-37 Language: Code for the primary language as indicated in MARC coding manual. Mandatory field in OCLC. 38 Modified record: Code as indicated in MARC coding manual. This field is required if applicable or readily available in OCLC. 39 Cataloguing source: Code "d" for derived and original records. Must be changed to blank when transcribing an LC bibliographic record from a printed source. Mandatory field in OCLC. VARIABLE DATA FIELDS - Monographs (print format and microform)
01X-09X NUMBERS AND CODES - Monographs (print format and microform)
010 Library of Congress control number: Add if it appears in the book, or if you happen upon it (e.g. during a LC web search). Correct the form if necessary. Code subfield |z (cancelled/invalid LC number) only if the information is readily available. NLC and BNB numbers may appear in this field, preceded by an alphabetic prefix. Do not delete unless replacing with an LC control number. In 2000, LC restructured newly assigned LCCNs such that the prefix portion reduced to 2 positions, and the year portion expanded to four digits (e.g. gm2005005810). 011 Linking LCCN: Obsolete. Disregard in derived records. 012 Terminal display: Do not code. Delete. 015 National bibliography number: Do not code. Disregard. 016 National bibliographic agency control number: Do not code. Disregard. 017 Copyright registration number: Do not code. Delete. 018 Copyright article-fee code: Do not code. Delete. 019 OCLC control number cross reference: Do not code. Disregard. 020 International standard book number: In 2004, it was announced that the current 10-digit ISBN was expanding to a 13-digit number. Initially, OCLC converted 13-digit numbers appearing in field 020 to field 024 (other standard identifier), first indicator "3". By November 2006, OCLC moved all existing 13-digit ISBNs to field 020. Like the 10-digit ISBN, code the 13-digit ISBN as an 020 |a and, in many cases, the monograph may carry both a 10 and 13 digit number (hardcover and paperback). Convert ISBNs appearing in 024 fields to 020s. If the 024 carries subfield |d, delete the subfield when converting to field 020. Code |c and |z if applicable and readily available. Ignore |c if not preceded by ISBN number. McMaster coding policyconcerning the 020 is as follows: Single Volume Monographs: Code ISBNs, both 10 and 13-digit numbers, for copies of the same edition (paperback/hardcover/online editions of the same copy). Do not code ISBN numbers for different editions or if the publishers differ, but only for the monograph in hand. More Than One Volume: When the bibliographic record represents one volume of a multi-volume set, include both the number for that volume and the set number, if available. 020 : : |a 0379005514 (v. 1) When the bibliographic record represents more than one volume, enter the set number and the ISBN for each volume held by McMaster. Prior to November 2005, ISBN entries for a multi-volume set were limited to the set number and the individual volume numbers, up to two, regardless of the library's holdings.020 : : |a 0379005506 (set) 022 International Standard Serial Number: Do not code for monographs. Briefly in 2005, 022 fields were coded for special issues/supplements of periodicals catalogued separately as monographs (e.g. 022 : : |y 0037-4806). Currently, ISSNs relating to special issues/supplements are coded in 7XX added entries. 024 Other Standard Identifier: Code the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for an entire work in field 024, first indicator "7", and specify that it is a DOI in subfield |2. For derived records, keep any 024 which follows these guidelines (e.g. 024 :7 : |2 doi |a 10.1007/11550907), and delete all others. For 13-digit ISBNs appearing in 024 tags, see 020. As of August 2005, DOIs index in the standard number index. 025 Overseas acquisition number: Do not code. Delete. 027 Standard technical report number: Used only for technical reports. Do not add. Disregard. 029 Other System Control Number: Delete. This tag is defined by OCLC, not MARC. OCLC uses field 029 for system control numbers for records from non-OCLC automated systems (e.g. British Library and National Library of Canada). 030 CODEN designation: Unique identifier for scientific and technical periodical titles. Accept. Do not code. 032 Postal registration number: Disregard. 033 Date/time and place of an event: Do not code. Delete. 035 System control number: For imported records from OCLC retain only the OCLC number (prefix OCoLC). For imported records from AMICUS (Z39.50 connection), delete any 035 without a prefix. For UMI records for McMaster theses, delete any 035 with bibliographic record numbers (035 : : |a 1387205), leaving those with UMI numbers (035 : : |a (UnM)AAINR07909 ; 035 : : |a AAINR07909). 037 Source of acquisition: Do not code. Delete. 039 Core record designator: Do not code. Delete. 040 Cataloguing source: Leave as is. Do not code. 041 Language code: Code |a, |b, and |h if applicable. According to MARC, in 2001 the practice of placing multiple language codes in one subfield (e.g. |a engfreger) was made obsolete, and subfields |a, |b, |d, |e, |f and |g were changed from Not-repeatable (NR) to Repeatable (R). 042 Authentication code: Agency-assigned data element. Do not code. Disregard. 043 Geographic area code: Accept. Code if applicable, following MARC Code List for Geographic Areas. 044 Country of publishing/producing entity code: Do not code. Disregard. 045 Time period of content: Do not code. Disregard. 046 Special coded dates: Do not code. Disregard. 047 Form of musical composition code: Do not code. Disregard. 048 Number of musical instruments or voices code: Do not code. Disregard. 049 Local holdings: System-supplied by OCLC. Disregard. 050 Library of Congress call number: Accept. When 2nd indicator is "0", use unchanged if the book is the same edition as the record. Any 050 with second indicator "4" (meaning that it is assigned by an agency other than LC) requires checking in the LC Classification Schedules before assigning as a call number. See Call Number Guidelines for local practices. Exceptions - Call number ranges which McMaster classifies elsewhere: ** Beginning in 2007, browsing by LC and NLM classification gained prominence as McMaster's catalogue moved to the Endeca search interface. Therefore, records should carry at least one valid LC-based classification number. See Endeca Classification Browse - Cataloguing Policy for details relating to field 050. 051 Library of Congress copy, issue, offprint statement: Do not code. Delete. 052 Geographic classification: Do not code. Delete. 055 Call numbers/class numbers assigned in Canada: Accept 055 fields with LC-based call numbers. Delete all others (i.e. not in LC call number format). For original cataloguing, where McMaster follows Library and Archives Canada (LAC) classification, code field 055 with 2nd indicator 4. See Endeca Classification Browse - Cataloguing Policy for details. 060 National Library of Medicine call number: Do not code. Disregard. 061 National Library of Medicine copy statement: Do not code. Delete. 066 Character set present: Disregard. 069 Other system control number: System-supplied by OCLC. Do not code. Delete. 070 National Agricultural Library call number: Do not code. Delete. 071 National Agricultural Library copy statement: Do not code. Delete. 072 Subject category code: Do not code. Delete. 074 GPO item number: Do not code. Delete. 080 Universal Decimal Classification number: Do not code. Delete. 082 Dewey Decimal call number: Do not code. Disregard. 084 Other call number: Do not code. Disregard. 086 Government document call number: Do not code. Disregard. 088 Report number: Used only for technical reports. Disregard. Do not code. 090 Local call number: Disregard. Do not code. McMaster call numbers are entered into MORRIS copy and item records. See Call Number Guidelines for local practices. 092 Locally assigned Dewey call number: Do not code. Delete. 096 Locally assigned NLM-type call number: Do not code. Delete. 097 Local call number: Disregard. Do not code. Like an 050 with second indicator "4", an 097 cannot be used as a McMaster call number without checking the LC Classification Schedules. 098 Other classification schemes: Do not code. Delete. 099 Local free-text call number: Do not code. Delete. 100 Main entry - Personal name: Delete subfield |e. 110 Main entry - Corporate name: First indicator of zero indicates that the heading is in pre-AACR2 form. These entries should be verified according to the authorities workflow (see Authority Workflow). 111 Main entry - Meeting name: First indicator of zero or 1 indicates that the heading is in pre-AACR2 form. These entries should be verified according to the authorities workflow (see Authority Workflow). 130 Main entry - Uniform title: Make uniform titles for anonymous classics, sacred literature, musical works and translations. Delete for items not in these categories. In derived records, do not delete |f. Delete |h. 242 Translation of title by cataloging agency: Do not code. Delete. 243 Collective uniform title: Do not code. Delete. 245 Title statement: Follow AACR and MARC coding manual. For subfield |h (general material designation (GMD)), follow LC practice (see LCRI, 1.1C). 246 Varying form of title: Use for varying forms of title. Follow LC guidelines when using MARC coding manual (e.g. LC does not use second indicator value "3" (other title) for books). Do not enter initial articles in subfield |a.
260 Publication, distribution, etc. (imprint): Use the first place and the Canadian place of publication, if any. If the place differs from that on the book, do not change it if the publisher is the same, and the places are both in the same country. If they are in different countries, change to match the book. If the larger geographical division is on the book but omitted on the record, do not add it. Accept the publisher's name as it appears on the derived record if it is the same publisher (e.g. the fullness or order of information may differ from AACR). If more than one publisher is included leave it. The date must be the latest publication date (not printing date) in the book, except for an open entry, in which case the date of the first volume published is used, if known. The dates of the first and last volumes of a set are used if known, otherwise leave the date open. Do not add "c" for copyright date on derived records, but code in originals. Do not change a second date to full form if only the last 2 digits are used. Government documents - When a commercial publisher appears prominently on an item in conjunction with a government body, consider the item a government document (in most cases). If a government body gives an author funding, it is not necessarily a government document unless the body has commissioned the publication. 263 Projected publication date: Do not code. Delete. 265 Source for acquisition/subscription address: Obsolete. Delete from derived records. 270 Address: Do not code. Delete. 3XX PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION, ETC. FIELDS - Monographs (print format and microform) 300 Physical description: Accept the form of paging unless it is incorrect. Unnumbered books are described as 1 v. (unpaged), unless the number is small enough to count and supply in square brackets. If form <1> appears in open entries, delete it. Do not add types of illustrations to the |b unless they are important to the book. If you change the |b you must also change the fixed field (Illustrations). Do not change wording to reflect AACR terms. Code |e for material which is separate from the book or for which there is no term listed in the |b (e.g. computer disk, sound recording). For microforms, enter the publication information of the microform in this field only if the material is otherwise unpublished. If it is a copy of published material, enter the publication information of the original here, and of the microform in field 533. 307 Hours, etc.: Do not code. Delete. 340 Physical medium: Do not code. Disregard. 350 Price: Obsolete. Delete in derived records. 351 Organization and arrangement of materials: Do not code. Disregard. 352 Digital graphic representation: Do not code. Disregard. 400 Series statement/added entry - Personal name: This tag would be found in pre-AACR2 cataloguing only. Convert to current AACR practices. 410 Series statement/added entry - Corporate name: This tag would be found in pre-AACR2 cataloguing only. Convert to current AACR practices. 411 Series statement/added entry - Meeting name: This tag would be found in pre-AACR2 cataloguing only. Convert to current AACR practices. 440 Series statement/added entry - Title: Must be formatted according to the authoritative form of the entry, including the numbering. Delete initial articles (second indicator must be "0"). Follow AACR and MARC coding. Code |x ISSN and, if the ISSN is lacking in the authority record, ensure the authority record is updated to include this information. 490 Series statement: Do not correct punctuation, form of numbering, minor details. Delete initial articles (second indicator is not a filing indicator) and leave second indicator blank. Code |x ISSN and, if the ISSN is lacking in the authority record, ensure the authority record is updated to include this information. 5XX NOTES - Monographs (print format and microform) Do not delete notes made by contributing libraries unless they are copy-specific or factually incorrect. 500 General note: Add only for important information (e.g. quoted notes (series-like statement)). Do not add notes such as "Maps on lining pages" or "Errata slip inserted". Make notes regarding location of material accompanying your main item (e.g. "Maps in pocket", "Program notes in container"). Do not add or delete index note. Bibliographic history notes may appear either as 500 or 503 in derived records. Change 503 to 500 in derived records and, in original records, use 500. Make a note for a limited edition of 100 copies or less. If adding an English note to a French catalogue record, do not change the other notes to English. For McMaster theses, create a 500 note identifying the thesis advisor and trace as a 700 added entry. This practice originated with Ph.D. theses in October 2004 and was later applied to Masters theses in October 2006. When cataloguing reprints and special issues/supplements of periodicals, create a 500 note explaining the relationship between the individual title (i.e. supplement) and the serial to which it relates. For example: Make a 730 for the uniform title of the periodical.500 : : |a Issued to subscribers of Sight and Sound. 500 : : |a Issued as v. 6, no. 2 of Southwestern. 501 With note: Use only for works issued bound together by the publisher. If McMaster, or a previous owner bound them, make a local note (590). 502 Dissertation note: Use for actual theses. When cataloguing Masters theses from the Teaching Programme, code both the 502 and 710 for the teaching programme, not for the department from which the thesis originates. For example: 503 Bibliographic history note: Obsolete. Use 500 tag.502 : : |a Thesis (M.Sc. (Teaching))--McMaster University 1999. 504 Bibliography, etc. note: Accept in any form as long as the information is correct. Add if applicable. 505 Formatted contents note: Usually add only for multi-volume sets in which each volume has a distinctive title, or for no more than 3 major works in one volume. In original work, do not follow the enhanced format. In derived records, accept if present in enhanced or basic form. 506 Restrictions on access note: Do not code. Delete. 510 Citation/references note: Do not code. Delete. 513 Type of report and period covered note: Used only for technical reports. Do not add. Disregard. 520 Summary, etc.: Accept in derived records. Code as necessary in original records. 521 Target audience note: Do not code. Delete. 522 Geographic coverage note: Do not code. Accept. 524 Preferred citation of described materials note: Do not code. Delete. 530 Additional physical form available note: Code only if the Library holds or has access to another format, otherwise delete. For example: 530: :|aAlso available via World Wide Web. 530: :|aCopy 2 issued as CD-ROM. 533 Reproduction note: Follow AACR and MARC. Tag 260 should reflect the item in its original form. If microform description for a work previously published appears in the 260 and 300, change it to a 533 and fix the 260 and 300 to reflect the original work. For example: 533: :|aPhotocopy.|bAnn Arbor, Mich. :|cUniversity Microfilms,|d1985. 533: :|aMicrofilm.|bAnn Arbor, Mich. :|cUniversity Microfilms,|d1989.|e1 microfilm reel. 534 Original version note: Do not code. Delete. Use 533 for photocopies and microform reproductions, and 500 for other reprint notes. 535 Location of originals/duplicates note: Do not code. Delete. 536 Funding information note: Do not code. Delete. 538 System details note: Accept for monographs with accompanying material of a direct access electronic resource (CD-ROM). Code only with important system requirements information that is readily ascertainable and is unlikely to change. For procedures for adding remote electronic access to a print record see Adding Electronic Titles to Print. 541 Immediate source of acquisition note: Do not code. Delete. 546 Language note: Accept. Code if necessary. Check fixed field "Language" (008; character positions 35-37) and tag 041 for consistency. 547 Former title complexity note: Do not code. Delete. 550 Issuing body note: Accept in derived records; update when necessary. |z is obsolete. Ensure that related 710s are present. 561 Ownership and custodial history: Do not code. Delete. Use a 590 when necessary. 583 Action note: Do not code. Delete. 585 Exhibitions note: Accept if correct. Code if necessary. 586 Awards note: Do not code. Delete. 590 Local note: Delete from derived records if not applicable. Add for local notes. With the exception of rare books, remember that copy-specific notes are input in the MORRIS copy record, and item-specific notes in the item record. Beginning in Sept. 2003, 590 fields were coded for donated materials bearing a McMaster bookplate--rare books excepted--with the note following the contents of the bookplate. By Jan. 2007, this practice of including bookplates in print resources was discontinued, retaining donor information in 590 fields only. As well, accept or supply 590 notes for resources purchased through McMaster special funds. Examples: 590 : : |a Donated by The Stephen Leacock Association, 2003. 590 : : |a Purchased with funds from The Dr. Alvin A. Lee Fund for Non-Fiction Books. When an additional copy is donated, add the note to the bibliographic record, not the copy record. For example: 590 : : |a Copy 2: donated by The Stephen Leacock Association, 2003. For rare books, add alllocal notes in 590 tags. For donated materials, use provenance notes. For example: 590: : |a Provenance : Name of owner, donor, etc. 6XX SUBJECT ACCESS FIELDS - Monographs (print format and microform)
Canadian materials: If an equivalent LC subject heading exists, use it and delete the NLC heading. Use NLC subject headings only if there is no LC equivalent, but use LC free-floating subdivisions. Exceptions:
As of March 2005, form subdivisions (|v) are not changed to topical subdivisions (|x) on import to MORRIS and, similarly, form subdivisions are coded as |v in original records. For details, see Form Subdivisions Coded in Subject Headings. For fiction, accept LC subjects in LC and derived records. Code in original records when: - the subjects are of historical significance (world wars, Shakespeare and such) - the subjects pertain to a collection of literary works by more than one author - the cataloguer perceives it as a useful access point. 600 Subject added entry - Personal name: Delete |e and |h. Delete initial article in |t subfield. Note that for Festschriften we make a 600 if more than 20% of the item is about the honouree. If the Festschrift also contains a bibliography of the honouree's works which constitutes more than 20% of the item, add another 600 with the subdivision "|v Bibliography." 610 Subject added entry - Corporate name: Delete |h. Delete medical subject headings (610 with 2nd indicator "2") when there is an LC equivalent (610 with 2nd indicator "0") in the bibliographic record. If the LC heading is lacking and the subject is pertinent to the work, an LC subject heading should be added and the medical subject heading deleted. 630 Subject added entry-Uniform title: Computer programs are tagged 630, not 650. Change to correct form on derived records. 650 Subject added entry-Topical term: Generally, use LC rather than NLC subject headings. ForCanadian materials see 6XX for local practices. In some specific cases we follow both NLC and LC: 650 : 0: |a Federal government |z Canada. (LC) Accept medical subject headings (MeSH headings -650s with 2nd indicator 2). Prior to spring 2007, these entries were converted on import to 653 tags with 2nd indicator 2. For older catalogue records, see 653 for guidelines regarding MeSH headings. 651 Subject added entry - Geographic name: For Canadian materials see 6XX for local practices. 653 Index term - Uncontrolled: Delete unless it is a MeSH heading. Do not code. For MeSH headings (653s with second indicator 2), indicators must be blank, and any subfields following the |a must be deleted. 654 Subject added entry - Faceted topical terms: Do not code. Delete. 655 Index term - Genre/form: Do not code. Delete. 690 Local subject access field: Used for topical subject headings created locally. Delete in derived records. For Macmillan collection use: 690 : 4: |a Macmillan collection. 691 Local subject access fields - Geographic name: Do not code. Delete. Use 651 with 2nd indicator "4" for local geographic subject headings. 699 Added class number: Delete. Do not code. 70X-75X ADDED ENTRIES - Monographs (print format and microform)
700 Added entry - Personal name: Follow AACR and MARC coding manual. Do not use |e. Delete initial article in |t. Make analytic added entries for author/title if there are two or three works present. Do not make additional 740s for the titles (|t is indexed in MORRIS). Do not use |h. For McMaster theses, code for the thesis advisor and ensure the record carries a 500 note identifying the advisor. See Bibliographic Services Liaison Group meeting of Oct. 21, 2004. This practice originated with Ph.D. theses in October 2004 and was later applied to Masters theses in October 2006. For special issues/supplements of periodicals which are catalogued separately as monographs, follow MARC and code the |x ISSN. 710 Added entry - Corporate name: Follow AACR and MARC coding manual. Do not use |h. For special issues/supplements of periodicals which are catalogued separately as monographs, follow MARC and code the |x ISSN. When cataloguing Masters theses from the Teaching Programme, code both the 502 and 710 for the teaching programme, not for the department from which the thesis originates. For example: 711 Added Entry-Meeting Name: Follow AACR and MARC coding manual. For special issues/supplements of periodicals which are catalogued separately as monographs, follow MARC and code the |x ISSN. 720 Added entry - Uncontrolled name: Do not code. Delete. 730 Added entry - Uniform title: Follow AACR and MARC coding manual. When cataloguingreprints and special issues/supplements ofperiodicals, create a 730 for the uniform title of the periodical. Follow MARC and code the |x ISSN. Ensure a 500 note explains the relationship between the individual title (i.e. supplement) and periodical. For example: CONSER (Module 17, 17.6) and LCRI (21.30G) differ somewhat. CONSER does not include the |p or |n in the added entry; whereas LCRI stipulates including subfields |n or |p in the 730. Follow CONSER, and do not include the additional subfields. 740 Added entry - Uncontrolled related/analytical title: Varying forms of the title are recorded in field 246. 740 is limited to uncontrolled analytical titles (titles that are not controlled through an authority file). In records for literary works by a single author with 505s containing three titles or less, create corresponding 740s. 752 Added entry - Hierarchical place name: Do not code. Delete. 755 Added entry - Physical characteristics: Do not code. Delete. 76X-78X LINKING ENTRIES - Monographs (print format and microform) 760-775; 777-787 Linking entries: These fields are valid for all formats, but LC does not use them for monographs (non-serial items). Follow LC. 776 Additional physical form entry: Accept or code if both formats are part of the Library's collection. Both records (one for each format) require a 776, as well as a corresponding 530.
841-88X HOLDINGS, ALTERNATE GRAPHICS, ETC. - Monographs (print format and microform) 841-854 Holdings, alternate graphics, etc.: Do not code. Delete. 856 Electronic location and access: Code tag 856 when the Library holds the print monograph and has remote access to the full-text (see Adding Electronic Titles to Print ). Test the link by clicking on the URL, ensuring that full-text access is there. When access is restricted to McMaster users, code a |z after the |u URL as follows: |z *McMaster only. Do not create a 590 note to indicate that the item is restricted to McMaster. Some records may have multiple 856 tags if a resource is available from more than one aggregator or site. Since fall 2004, McMaster accepts 856 links to enriched contents(e.g. contents notes, summaries, abstracts, etc.) in derived records. See Bibliographic Services Liaison Group meeting of Oct. 21, 2004. Test the link by clicking on the URL and, if access is provided, accept the 856 and change the |3 (materials specified note) to a |z (public note). This note describes what is provided through the link. Delete 856 tags with links to advertisements. Delete any dead links. Links to enriched contents do not require a "McMaster only" note. For Canadian government publications, check AMICUS for a catalogue record with a URL. Include Library and Archives Canada URLs in MORRIS whenever possible, and do not supply a "McMaster only" note. 863-886 Holdings, alternate graphics, etc.: Do not code. Delete. 891 Publication pattern data: Do not code. Delete. 935 Accept. Used for content spotlighting in Endeca. For example: 935 : : |a bbpsych |b NG |c 2007/01 |d Article Database 938 Vendor Specific Ordering Data: Delete. 979 Do not delete. Do not code. Contains local historical information. 987 Local Romanization/Conversion History: Delete. 994 Do not delete. Do not code.
