Government Publications Integration
A decision was made at the Bibliographic Services Liaison Group meeting dated Dec. 1, 2005 to integrate certain formats of materials currently classified using CODOC, into the main LC collection. A selection of core materials will remain in the CODOC collection. These items will not circulate. A listing of the titles contained in the
Core Collection will be created and maintained.

MonographsIntegrate all new monographic materials starting with a
2006 publication date directly into the collection using LC classification, unless the item falls within the guidelines of the
Core Collection.
Monographic SeriesIssues with a 2006 publication date will be given an LC class number. The decision to classify individually or as a straight series will be made on a case-by-case basis by the Cataloguing Policy Librarian and the Original Cataloguers in consultation with the
Reference subject specialists. Every decision will be documented in an
alphabetical list which will detail the classification scheme to be used as well as the authority number. This listing will be updated regularly upon receipt of series documents. The series authority records will be edited or created to record the classification practice. Reclassification will be kept to a minimum. The general rule is less than 10 items in a series will be considered for reclassification.
SerialsMills serials will continue to be classified using CODOC due to space constraints. This issue may be re-evaluated in the future.
Thode serials require additional investigation. The facilitate the cataloguing workflow, it is recommended that the serials continue to be classified in the same manner as Mills serials, using CODOC.
Summaries, Appendices, Follow-up Reports and ResponsesEnsure that all parts of the report sit together. Check the
Core Collection or with
Reference staff to determine classification scheme to be used.
PamphletsAll pamphlet materials or loose leaf pages will be placed in acco folders or pamphlet binders. Loose pamphlets will not be added to the collection.
Binding PracticesMaterials with flimsy bindings will be sent out to be bound after they are received (before cataloguing). If they are depository items or if no purchase order exists, a brief bibliographic record will be created in Morris prior to being bound.
